We Work Toward the Prize

As children, we often dream of becoming firefighters, teachers, astronauts, or artists. We imagine ourselves winning, succeeding, and doing something meaningful. For some, those dreams are nurtured by encouraging parents and a strong belief in their potential. For others, life's hardships bury those hopes, making dreams feel out of reach.

But God never meant for us to live without vision or hope. Scripture calls us to dream, press forward, and live with purpose—not just for earthly goals, but for the ultimate prize of knowing Christ and fulfilling our God-given calling.

“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14, KJV
Paul wasn’t just talking about success here on earth. He had his eyes on eternity, a heavenly reward for a life lived in obedience, love, and perseverance.

Still, God delights in watching His children grow, dream, and achieve victory in every area of life. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3, NIV

Practical Steps to Work Toward the Prize

  1. Set God-Honoring Goals
Don’t just aim for comfort, aim for calling. Seek goals that stretch your faith and impact others. “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”  Proverbs 29:18, KJV

  2. Use Vision Boards and Journals
Write the vision. Make it clear. Visual reminders help keep you focused. “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk 2:2, NKJV

  3. Press On, Even When It’s Hard
Keep going. Obstacles are part of the process. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Philippians 4:13, NKJV

  4. Rely on Jesus Daily
Stay connected to the Source of your strength. “I am the vine, you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.”  John 15:5, CSB

Declaration

Today, I declare that I am pressing forward toward the high calling of God in Christ. I am not defined by my past or limited by my present. I set my goals with faith and take action with confidence, knowing Christ gives me strength. I will not give up; I will overcome every obstacle and win the prize set before me.

Prayer

Father, thank You for calling me to a life full of purpose, promise, and perseverance. Help me to fix my eyes on You as I work toward every goal You’ve placed in my heart. Give me the strength to overcome fear, failure, and doubt. Let me press on daily, motivated by faith, fueled by grace, and anchored in Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
