Renewing the Mind with God’s Word - Not Open-Minded to Accept Every Social Concept

Is it always good to be open-minded? It is good to learn what society teaches and to be able to say why an idea is wrong or right according to God’s laws. Romans 12:2 NIV warns, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Our minds are renewed, not by opinions or trends, but by God’s unchanging truth. The Word of God becomes our spiritual filter. It helps us understand what is good, what is evil, and why we believe what we believe. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105, ESV

How do we guard our minds? We filter every thought through scripture by asking ourselves,  “Does this line up

with the character of God and the truth of His Word?” We don’t entertain ideas that oppose God’s ways. “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”  Ephesians 5:11, NIV. We must be willing to learn, so we become anchored in God’s Truth.  An open mind is only safe when it’s guarded by a sound heart and a grounded spirit. We must spend time daily in God’s Word. The more of His Word we know, the faster we'll recognize deception.

As Christians, we don’t deal in the grey areas. We stand firmly in the rights and wrongs outlined in Scripture. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,” 2 Timothy 3:16, NKJV. The Scriptures light our pathways—if we allow it; “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path;” Psalm 119:105, ESV. God says He is not a man that He should lie. “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it?” Numbers 23:19, ESV.

God’s Word is always true. “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever.”  Psalm 119:160, ESV. “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” John 17:17, NASB. We don’t accept part of it and leave out other parts. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God;” Matthew 4:4, KJV.
“Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar.” Proverbs 30:6, NIV

Declaration

Today, I take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. I will not let worldly ideas, deceptive trends, or ungodly influences take root in my mind. My thoughts are aligned with God’s Word, and my mind is being renewed daily. I choose wisdom over popularity and truth over tolerance.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for giving me a sound mind. Help me to be teachable, but never spiritually careless. Guard my thoughts. Alert me when something contradicts Your Word. Help me to grow in discernment and boldly reject anything that exalts itself above the truth of Scripture. Wash my mind daily with Your Word. Let me think clearly, speak wisely, and live faithfully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
