We Shall Accomplish Greater Works Through Christ

The image has two hands held over a person that looks sick or dead, as if the person was praying for healing.

John 14:12 (NIV) – "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."

Can you imagine doing more than Jesus did? It sounds incredible, but Jesus Himself said that whoever believes in Him will do the works He did—and even greater ones! This wasn’t just a statement to His disciples 2,000 years ago. It’s a promise for every believer today, including you.

But how is this possible? After all, Jesus performed countless miracles, healed the sick, raised the dead, and

brought people into the Kingdom of God. What could be greater than that?

When Jesus ascended to the Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to empower us. This means His work didn’t end when He left earth—it continues through us, His followers. The "greater works" refer to the global impact and reach of His mission. While Jesus’ earthly ministry was confined to a specific region and time, the Church has been sent out to the entire world. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped to spread the Gospel, heal, and deliver people from bondage in every corner of the globe.

This doesn’t mean we outdo Jesus, but rather that through faith in Him, we are able to expand His ministry and reach more people for the Kingdom. It’s a call for us to step into our identity as believers, walking by faith and allowing God’s power to work through us.

Let’s all begin to please our Heavenly Father by seeking Him and doing whatever the Holy Spirit leads us to do.

Reflection:

  • Do you believe Jesus’ promise that you can do "greater works" through faith in Him?

  • How can you allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you to impact others?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I thank You for the incredible promise that You have called me to do greater works in Your name. Empower me with Your Holy Spirit to walk in faith, minister to others, and expand Your Kingdom. Help me to trust in Your power and step boldly into the purpose You have for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
