Understanding Discernment
When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit begins to dwell within us, empowering us to live according to God’s perfect will. Discernment is the
spiritual practice of hearing and obeying the Holy Spirit’s guidance in every area of our lives. It is key to our spiritual success.
While challenges may arise even for those who diligently seek God, practicing discernment enables us to walk in victory despite life’s difficulties. Through discernment, we can align our lives with God’s promises and overcome hindrances to His blessings
Six Steps to Practicing Discernment
Know What the Bible Says
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17 KJV). Study the scriptures regularly and let God’s promises saturate your heart.Speak God’s Word Aloud
Declare God’s promises over your life. Hearing His truth out loud builds faith and helps you believe that His promises are for you.Pray and Ask for Guidance
"You do not have because you do not ask God" (James 4:2 KJV). Take time to specifically ask for what you need and for clarity in every decision.Praise God for His Covenant
Praise Him in faith, knowing He has already provided everything you need (Philippians 4:19 KJV). Gratitude reinforces your trust in His goodness.Invite the Holy Spirit’s Conviction
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal anything in your life that hinders God’s blessings. Be open to His conviction and willing to make changes.Listen and Act on Spiritual Promptings
The Holy Spirit often speaks through gentle nudges or an inner caution. Pay attention to these impressions, and seek godly counsel when needed.
